About Paphos

Paphos (Pafos)

Paphos is located on the southeast coast of the island. It hosts the most historical attractions as it was in fact, the capital of Cyprus in the Roman times.

Paphos is endowed with inexhaustible historical, cultural, natural and human riches, impressively unfolded to the visitor.

 

Legend has it that Paphos is the birthplace of the mythological Goddess Aphrodite, the Goddess of love and beauty. The large rock found at Aphrodite’s birthplace is known as 'Petra tou Romiou', the Venus Rock. You can also visit Aphrodite’s Temple dating back to the 12th century BC, and Aphrodite’s Bath.

Other natural and historical attractions are Mosaics and Tombs of the Kings dating back to the 4th century BC, the Paphos Harbor (first built in the time of Alexander the Great), the Paphos Castle (rebuilt in 1592 AD), the Ayios Neophytos Monastery, and the mosaics in the Houses of Dionysos, Theseus and Aion, dating many millennia back. Visitors can also visit St Paul’ s Pillar to which St. Paul was tied and scourged, a 2nd century  Odeon Theatre and the Byzantine Museum. For nature lovers, visiting the Akamas National Park will be a memorable experience. 

The legacy from its rich history and culture prompted UNESCO to add Paphos to its World Cultural Heritage List in 1980.

Paphos enjoys the mildest climate on the island with slightly cooler summers and milder shorter winters.

Paphos is surrounded by a number of smaller villages located on its outskirts. With their local character and traditional architecture are magnets to the visitor. The rest of the island is conveniently accessible by the motorway. Paphos International Airport is only 15 min drive from the city center. Larnaca International Airport is 90 min drive away.

About Kallepia village

To the northeast outskirts of Paphos , 13 km away, is Kallepia village, small picturesque village situated at 500m above sea level. Because of its elevated position, Kallepia is privileged to command breathtaking views over the vineyard covered valleys below and the surrounding mountains.

The village of Kallepia is so renowned for its beauty that its name actually derives from the Greek word of the same meaning. It is a world away from the hustle and bustle of the city.

Village Center

Kallepia is still one of the most attractive villages of the area. It preserves many of its old, authentic features such as the stone built houses with the large courtyards, the great number of pitchers, stone build ovens, clay pots and earthenware jars, the stone built wine-press. Of great historical importance are chapel of the Holy Cross and the village’s main church of Ayios Georgios.

A stroll around the village reveals to visitors that the traditional core of the village remains unchanged. The surrounding environment is one of sheer natural beauty, offering the visitor unique moments of calmness, while also being a convenient starting point for exploring the surrounding communities. Overgrown with rich indigenous vegetation, plantations, vineyards, and nature trails that offer a generous sense of serenity and tranquility, accompanied by the genuine hospitality of the local people.

Due to its impressive natural surroundings and traditional architecture, Kallepia is listed among the villages selected by the Government of Cyprus to participate in the Agrotourism network.

Cyprus also has a long tradition of winemaking that goes back over 4,000 years. Kallepia is not an exception. It well known for its great many vineyards. Grape cultivation, mainly for wine production, is the main occupation of the villagers. Also, the cultivation of grain, almond trees, olive trees, and carob trees is popular among the villagers.

Kallepia boasts an enviable climate. The village’s location allows it to be free of the summer humidity while, at the same time, not cold during the winter months.

Just 2km away is the Tsada village, home to the Minthis Hills golf course, a par 72, 18-hole championship golf course that combines sports, living, leisure and amenities. Furthermore, the golf courses of Secret Valley and of Aphrodite Hills are just 30 minutes away.
